SCOTT HYMES ANNOUNCES BID FOR STATE SENATE DISTRICT 33

Businessman & Community Advocate Seeks to Unseat Greenip

Crownsville resident vows to be voice of reason and commits to working together

with state leaders to improve district that extends from Severna Park to South County

Severna Park, MD -- Scott Hymes, 42, of Crownsville, today announced his candidacy for the Maryland State Senate’s 33rd District. Hymes pledged a cooperative approach to common-sense government that represents the diversity of a large legislative district. The seat is currently held by Janet Greenip (R-Crofton) who is a self-proclaimed obstructionist according to a Capital article previewing this year’s legislative session and was voted least effective legislator in Maryland in a poll of her peers by The Maryland Gazette.

“District 33 deserves a state senator who will fight for us, not against us. We need someone who is a moderate who can work with both parties to be an effective Senator. We need a leader who believes we can save the bay, not a politician who scored a zero with the state’s leading environmental watchdog group. Janet Greenip votes against healthy air laws at a time when Anne Arundel County residents suffer from some of the worst air pollution in the country. It’s time for a change in District 33 and our families deserve a leader who will fight for what’s right for everyone” said Hymes.

Born in Maryland, Hymes has lived in Anne Arundel County for 38 years. Over the past several years, he has been increasingly involved in his community, including serving as vice president of Herald Harbor Citizens Association, founder and president of the Crownsville Conservancy, and as an appointed member of the Severn River Commission. Hymes hopes to parlay his recognized leadership of the Severn Riverkeeper Program and the Severn River Association to sponsor and support legislation that helps bring back the Bay, the economic engine of not just Anne Arundel County, but the entire state of Maryland.

A successful, independent small businessman, Hymes is the owner of Alliance Entertainment, a local music brokerage and production company. “Running a small business is not easy. I have signed the front of a paycheck, as well as endorsing the back of one. I know what it’s like to have to balance a budget, pay the bills and make payroll while complying with regulations. I have seen how government can be a help, but also how it can be a hindrance to our small business community.” Hymes plans to work with state business leaders to shepherd legislation that aids the growing number of independent business owners.

“I am running for State Senate because I believe we deserve someone who will work with state leaders to strengthen our schools, to build better communities, and to help those who need our help. We deserve better than someone who is proud to be called an obstructionist, who is proud to vote against every measure to save the Bay, who is proud of her ideology that denies health coverage for families ,  medical research to find cures for terrible diseases and votes against public education every chance possible . We need someone who listens to all of the District 33 constituents, not just one set of opinions,” said Hymes.

“From Millersville to Davidsonville and Severna Park to South County, I will cover each corner of this district to make sure voters know that I will bring back leadership to District 33,” said Hymes.
